Ewa Dziarnowska

A Room With a Better View, performance, 3 sets of ca. 20 min

In this intimate solo performance, Ewa Dziarnowska builds from her studio dispositive and improvisation practice. Raw, impulsive, sharp and sometimes elusive, her movements reduce to essential dance gestures. The corporeal experience, devoid of narrative tension, seeking into the deepest bodily memories and non-rational knowledge is translated into space.

With an array of choreographic tools, Ewa designs a space which favors intuition: "let yourself do" as a score. The guiding principle of the work is to maintain immediate physical responsiveness and aesthetic curiosity - an immersion in the "here / now". Based on a very loose movement score, the performance attempts to overcome the dictates of traditional dramaturgy: linearity, semiotic understanding, symmetry, resolution. In their place, it opens a field that reveals the fragmentary nature of processes like memory, affective flow, instinct and desire.

Bio

Ewa Dziarnowska (PL) is a dancer and choreographer based in Berlin and working internationally. Her latest projects, 'This resting, patience',  and 'A Room With a Better View', engage with the ideologies of improvisatory processes and embodied knowledge in countering the prevailing need for rationality, linearity and sense-making. She is interested in a poetic dimension of dance, its inherent sensuality as well as the pleasure and pain it brings along. Feral, rough and raw, but not devoid of precision and expertise in relation to movement technique(s), her practice challenges ways in which dance circulates within the context of bourgeois theatrical conventions and product-oriented entertainment industry. As a performer, most recently she has worked with Alex Baczyński-Jenkins, Michele Rizzo, Enad Marouf.
